Spices of Rome
Campo De Fiori is a food market of Rome. The "Field of Flowers" is a must for everyone, even those who are not especially interested in gastronomical explorations. Few dozens of sellers with brilliant fruit, pasta, cheese, Italian liqueur and of course spices! Very Mediterranean!
I met Fabrizio 10 years ago and he still makes his handmade spice mixes and sells them in the middle of the market square. Can't even list here how many herbs he grows and produces for a pinch of Italian atmosphere. As a matter of fact many pinches.
"Un' etto di questo, per favore" - A pound of this please. That's all you need to say in Italian to open all gates on this market. Although he constantly thought we speak german, we managed to understand each other.
We chose five sorts and carried home a little bit more than half kilos of spices. We also received precise very straightforward instructions for all of them, like:
Carbonara "cooking oil bacon 3 minutes after eggs and cheese"
Meat mix "cooking together"
Campi De Fiori "cooking for everything"
Our stocks are filled up now, and we can't wait to run out of them so we can visit the Italian capital again!
